A litigant in person has the right to have assistance in the family courts. This is called a ‘McKenzie Friend’. McKenzie Friends attend court appearances with you to provide guidance and support as you present your case to the court.

 

A litigant in person can apply for ‘Rights of Audience’. A successful ‘Rights of Audience’ application allows the McKenzie Friend to address the court on the litigant’s behalf in much the same way as a Solicitor/Barrister.

• In relevant circumstances we will recommend a litigant applies for ‘rights of audience’. A successful application will enable us to address the court and examine witnesses. When ‘rights of audience’ is granted, we become the advocate in your case.
